I’ve been checking out Blade and Soul for a while but haven’t got a real chance to play through any of it at all. I also refuse to watch gameplay of it, as I’d like to keep how the game plays and flows as a surprise for myself. I’m looking for your opinions to decide if the founder’s pack is worth my money.
I’m mainly looking for some comparable examples. I come from a heavy Guild Wars 2 background, NCsoft’s other franchise, and all my friends as of late seem really invested into playing the CBT. Aside from GW2, I’ve also played a vast majority of other mmos, including tera, wow, GW1, m..maplestory, and tons of the various korean grind mmos. If Blade and Soul (BS? B&S?) has some easy comparisons, bring them up, I’ll probably know what you’re talking about.
A couple of questions:
How’s the story? Is there a recurring cast of characters throughout the game?
How balanced is PvP? Do we need to grind for Blade And Soul Gold? How is matchmaking? I think PvP is split between open world ganking and structured (arena) matches, but I’m not sure.
What sort of content is there? Aside from dungeons and PvP, what else is there to do?
How in depth is character build customization? I like a game that gives tons of options. I don’t expect a Path of Exile or something that’s like the newly release Tales of Zestiria, but at the very least I’d hope it would be as extensive or more in depth than Guild Wars 2
The story is a pretty generic revenge story: the main villain was wronged in the past, and went out of her way to get revenge on the man that did that to her, and you got caught up in the middle. Now you set out to take revenge on her. It has nice little details and character developments here and there that keep you from losing interest completely, but its not a new kind of story you’ve never seen before.
PvP can range from very imbalance to very balance depend on what skill level you’re looking at. Right now people are going crazy about how LBM and Sin are gods, but from what i’ve seen from the pros, its pretty diverse. But yeah, the 2 mentioned classes if played correctly seem to be the “best” for quite a few months now, since most tournament recently was won by one of those 2.
Side contents are pretty meh. If you are a completionist, then there’s a lot of things to chase, and most achievement are VERY grinding: 1000+ boss kills among other Blade-Soul Gold, and then there’s the costumes collections. But thats about it, its just a small number of contents that is very grindy and time consumming. If you’re looking for diversity, there’s not a lot in this game.
The character builds are pretty lock in place, in PvE at the very least. In PvP, experienced players will change certain skills/talents/etc. on match up (you get 30s preparation time after each queue where you can change your skill builds, most good players i know always do some adjusting during this). PvE-wise, each classes have 1 or 2 builds that are used and players are expected to use them, and tbh, if you’re not using them, you’ll perform very shit and no one will play with you again, so you’ll have to use them anyway. As far as i know, FM and Sin are the most “diversed” class in PvE, as they have the most numerous builds that are acceptable and used, and by that i meant 2-3 each. This is another aspect of the game where diversity is non-existence.
